Article 04

Events

Adding an event, what each field does, how past events clean themselves up, and how to show a special service.

Events are the part of a church site that goes stale fastest. Ours clean up after themselves.

Add an event

In the editor open Events and press New event. Fill in:

  • Title. Short. "Night of Worship," not "Our Annual Night of Worship and Fellowship Celebration."
  • Date and time. Pick the date. Add an end date for multi-day events and the site shows a range.
  • Place. Leave blank to use your church address.
  • Description. Two or three sentences. Who it is for and what to bring.
  • Link. Optional. Registration, tickets, or a form.
  • Photo. Optional. A square or landscape image.

Press Publish. Upcoming events appear on your Events page and the next one or two show on the home page, depending on the template.

Past events drop off by themselves

When an event's date passes, it disappears from the site at the next rebuild. You do not have to delete anything. The entry stays in your editor in case you want to copy it for next year.

Sites rebuild every Monday on their own and every time you publish. If an event ended on Saturday and is still showing on Sunday, publish any small change and it will clear.

Weekly services are not events

Service times live in Church settings, not Events. Put your regular Sunday and midweek gatherings there and they show in the header, the visit page and the footer. Use Events for things that have a date.

Special services and countdowns

Revival, Crest and Atlas have a featured block with a live countdown. Turn it on in Church settings, give it a title and a date, and it appears at the top of the site until the moment arrives. Turn it off after.

Recurring events

We do not do repeating events yet. For a monthly gathering, add the next two or three dates as separate events, or describe it in the service times block ("First Fridays at 7").
